Chris Barr

Assistant Professor

Chris Barr is a West Virginia native who works in a multidisciplinary fashion as both an artist and a designer. He has received a MFA from the University at Buffalo and a BFA from West Virginia University. His artistic work is concerned with contemporary labor patterns, communication, time, and authorship and is often influenced by aspects of the creative industry. His work spans various media including networked performance, installation and video and has been exhibited internationally and nationally, notably at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY, The Lab in San Francisco, CA, Reed Gallery at the University of Cincinnati and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (Spain). His projects have been covered in publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education, The New York Times, and the Associated Press.

Before coming to WVU, Chris worked professionally as a user interface designer in Philadelphia. In his most recent position he designed the interface for the open source software project, VuFind, which recently won a Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration. With this and other projects, Chris has developed a specialty in design for research and academic computing needs.
