Mesaros Galleries

Managed and programmed by Robert Bridges and the Division of Art, the Mesaros Galleries primary mission is to serve the educational needs of the art majors and those studying art history and art appreciaition. The programming is focused on bringing in contemporary artists of important or growing reputation who work in all media to serve as mentors and professional examples for the studio art majors. The galleries are committed to showing experimental work that is innovative both in terms of media and content. Occasionally, historical or thematic exhibitions are prepared by the invited curator or drawn from the resources of the University's Art Collection as a teaching tool for students. It is hoped that the University and Morgantown cultural community is enriched by exposure to top quality contemporary works of art and this professional programming. The Mesaros Galleries embrace this special public function.

The 10-12 exhibitions produced each year are determined by the gallery curator, through consultation with Division of Art faculty and the chair. This include the BFA Senior Projects Exhibitions at the end of each academic year, approximately two-four MFA Candidate Thesis Exhibitions and four to six curated or traveling exhibitions per year. These shows might include solo exhibits by major international or national contemporary artists, solo shows by regional artists, group shows proposed by art faculty and special or thematic shows curated by the gallery curator.

Additionally, graduate students in both the MA and MFA programs can gain valuable experience by working in the Galleries as part of a graduate assistantship. The Mesaros Galleries are located on either side of the Creative Arts Center Lobby.
